Welcome to the fostering process at Matrix Foster Care Services Inc.. We understand that embarking on the journey to become a foster parent is a significant decision, and we are here to guide you through every step of the process.
The process typically begins with individuals or couples expressing interest in becoming foster parents. This can be done by contacting our office either by phone (905) 514-9900 or email us at admin@matrixfostercareservices.ca.
Prospective foster parents are invited to attend an information session. These sessions offer an overview of the fostering process, requirements, and expectations, as well as an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the role of foster parents.
After attending the information session and deciding to proceed, prospective foster parents complete an application form. This application includes personal information, background checks, references, and details about the individual or couple’s readiness and suitability to become foster parents.
Once the application is submitted, a social worker conducts a comprehensive home study assessment. This involves visits to the prospective foster parents’ home to evaluate the living environment, assess family dynamics, discuss motivations for fostering, and determine the applicant’s ability to meet the needs of foster children.
Prospective foster parents are required to complete pre-service training as part of the licensing process. This training typically covers topics such as child development, attachment theory, trauma-informed care, cultural competency, behavior management, and legal aspects of fostering.
